THE BIGHORN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Begun in 2001, the non-partisan Bighorn Leadership Development Program has trained over 200 community leaders across the state to become effectively engaged in the political process. Many of the participants have either run for political office themselves or are actively advocating on behalf of an issue or a candidate. Previous programs have taken place in Durango, Grand Junction, Colorado Springs, Greeley, Castle Rock, and Vail.

In 2005, Bighorn modified the initial model and implemented an issue specific model that focuses on personal leadership as well as the policies and politics of specific, timely issues such as Health Care & Sustainable Development. Bighorn will continue to use this model in 2006 as we explore the public policy implications of economic development.
