Overview

Public policy is only as good as the leaders who implement it. In short, creating good leaders the goal of the Bighorn Center of Public Policy's Leadership Development Program. By identifying potential leaders and providing them with the necessary training and tools, the program strives to ensure that effective and practical leaders are available to Colorado over the long term.

Although the Bighorn Center is located in Denver, the Leadership Development Program has moved around the state working with up and coming leaders on a regional basis. Programs haven taken place in Vail (2004), Castle Rock (2003), Greeley (2003), Grand Junction (2002), Colorado Springs (2002), and Durango (2001). Program Design

The Leadership Development Program takes place one weekend per month over a six month period. It is essential that participants fully commit to the program in its entirety. If a participant is not fulfilling their commitment, he/she will be asked to resign.

Tuition

The Bighorn Leadership Development Program is a Fellowship. Bighorn Fellows pay nothing except their own transportation. In return, The Bighorn Center for Public Policy expects the fellows to serve their communities by becoming or increasing their engagement in the policy making/political process.

Class Size and Selection Criteria

The number of fellows per class ranges from 18 to 22. Bighorn strives for geographic, political, and individual diversity. Fellows are selected by a committee of residents from that region.
